Grepple Species Info Sheet

Description

Here's the info sheet for the Grepple species! Its pretty simple since they dont have too much oddities so its not overly expanded c:

-----------------------------

APPEARANCE AND GENERAL INFO:

Grepple appearances vary between female and male Grepples. Where males have the more 'darker' harsher color schemes, females display a more softer, vibrant color scheme. Females also seem to have more fur then the males, and it also appears more dense.
Albino Grepples and all-black ( melanistic ) Grepples DO occur in the species, but much like real life animals, its a pretty rare sight!
Their overall height is shown above! There have been cases such as dwarfism however and unusually large Grepples, but its an uncommon sight and usually only occurs in the wild.

The tongue, paw pads and genitalia always match their flesh color, which can vary between a soft pink, pale beige, light green, light blue and light purple. ( I had to cencor it tho just to be sure, not that it displayed much but eh its also on FA )
Their genitalia is retractable! Boners and such do not occur unless they're in heat/excited.

Only the male Grepples have wings, which is either a set of two, or a simple set of one. They are able to hover/float with them for a short while, but they're not powerful enough to keep them flying in the air.
The males use this ability to their advantage during hunting or fighting with another male over either food, or to win over a female both went for at the time.
This however is to their disadvantage when swimming, leaving the females to be the better swimmers among them, which may explain as to why they also have the more dense fur.

Both males and females can have three different kinds of tails, which all appear at random, no matter the areas they live in. ( deserts, rainforests, cold places etc )

Their big arms and strong legs allow them to be good hunters/fighters, much like a kangaroo uses its legs to kick at its opponent. Sharp claws can leave nasty gashes, though overall they seem friendly and laid back, safe for around mating season which sets in around spring. Most Grepple babies are born during Autumn.

Grepples usually get around one to two babies at a time, allowing for twins to be a possibility. Only the females have the nipples, and during pregnancy they swell up due to milk storage. They turn back to flat however as soon as they're done suckling the child, which lasts about a year.
Being mammals, they birth live young. Grepple babies are born blind, deaf and naked. After their first year they will be fully developed, however they are not considered to be adults until their 18th year.
Grepples live up to about 20 - 30 years old, though there have been records of some reaching an age as old as 40+ when raised in captivity. ( more about this later )

Large ears and four eyes allow for a great sense of sight and hearing, though their sense of smell doesn't seem to be their strongest part for they have small nostrils/nasal cavities.

It CAN occur a male Grepple shows interest in another male Grepple, and vice versa at females, though its not common. ( much like penguins can have male companions )

Grepples communicate trough a series of sounds, body language and social activities such as grooming/preening and cuddling to keep up their social activities.
A Grepple pack at max will hold about a total of 8 Grepples at a time, with one male and female being the lead Alphas. They usually seem to travel in smaller groups of four or five however.

-----------------------------------------

FOOD AND HUNTING:

Being omnivores, Grepples can eat just about anything, varying from fruit, to fish, to meat and plants. However, some foods CAN be poisenous to them!
Chocolate, sweets, alcohol, basically anything such as that and too much sugar is bad for them. They do seem to have a taste for milk and cheese however, and it has no bad effects on them.

Some Grepples are raised in captivity, which leads to a balanced special diet in order to keep your Grepple healthy.
In the wild, Grepples have proven themselves to be excellent hunters and foragers, and they dont seem to mind scavenging either. They usually hunt at night on live animals, though fishing and foraging for fruits and plants happens during the day. They wont hunt anything thats out of their league alone however, but together they do seem to be able to take down much larger prey. So yes, Grepples can definitely be dangerous to humans in the wild!

---------------------------------------

WEAKNESS, STRENGTHS, ABILITIES:

They make for great runners due to their powerful hindlegs, and due to this often Grepples even seem to be used to herd sheep or other livestock.
They are susceptible to fire however due to their fur and fears, and due to this they are terrified of it.
Grepples are sturdy creatures however and are able to survive falls from larger heights, which comes in handy often when climbing trees and such whenever they try to reach for fruits and other.
They can of course die due to bullets and beatings, just like any other animal.

They do not have any kind of magic or other fantasy ability, but they are able to learn words and mimic sounds!

------------------------------------

GREPPLES AND HUMANS AND OTHER ANIMALS:

Grepples make for great company for other pets such as cats and dogs and other larger animals. It is however not advised to keep small birds, rodents and fish around Grepples, as they are known to try and eat these from time to time.

Despite them being able to be kept as a pet, you have to have had them as a youngster or baby. Adult Grepples can often NOT be tamed any longer, which makes them too dangerous to keep at a later age.
Grepples are fairly intelligent beings and are able to learn simple tasks and perform tricks. It takes a lot of training and earning their trust however, but when you do you have a buddy for life.
Sometimes it seems people like to dress up their Grepples, adorning them with special custom made clothing, collars and other accessories.

Having a Grepple is something pretty unique, as they are very expensive and difficult to keep as pets! They require a lot of attention and care, so be sure to think twice about it before getting a Grepple.

Even though Grepples are often kept as good company and pretty pets, there's also a huge poaching and underground industry surrounding them.
There have been illegal activities surrounding underground Grepple arenas, in which humans use Grepples to battle to their death illegaly in order to win money, much like cock and dog-fights.
Its illegal to hunt Grepples for their coats, but poaching continues to be a problem. It seems especially the winter coats and tropical coats are most wanted.

Grepples are often caught by sneaking up on them and using a tranquilizer, but make sure that you dont end up to become the one thats hunted instead..

RULES:

When making a Grepple, please always credit me when doing so! And if you happen to make more art of them, i'd love to see it!
Grepples are an open species, BUT if you dont follow their guidelines and info shown above you will have to adjust it! This counts for colors and personalities.
I do not want emo/kawaii-desu grepples, extremely evil/violent grepples or magical grepples!
I dont mind it too much if people make 'pin up' Grepples, but dont oversexualize them please. ( Even if im not one of them, furries will be furries after all... )
If you're ever uncomfortable or not sure about it if your Grepple is okay, just let me know and i'll see if i can help you out!

Please do NOT make adoptables out of them though!

Would it be alright if I made Grepple AU versions of characters (OCs not canon), or gave my shapeshifters Grepple forms/disguises? Or does that feel like it'd go against the lore?
